Michelin's New Sport Cup 2 Connect
Friday, 21 August 2020
Michelin has just released the Sport Cup 2 Connect, the first ever smart-tire: Every tire has an embedded sensor sending pressure and temperature data back to a smartphone app so you never have to guess what temperature and pressure your tires are at on the track. They're 240 UTQG and appear to meet all of SCCA's criteria for 2021 autocross and time trial competition. We don't know much about them yet, but if they're the successor to the Sport Cup 2, they are likely to be very fast tires! The bad news: they're also very expensive tires, with some sizes as much as $576/tire on Tirerack.

SCCA'S JUNE FASTRACK NOW OUT
SCCA's June Fastrack was just released. SCCA has some interesting proposals about F Street (FS) they're looking for member feedback on. Concept 1 would reclass the "Track Ponies" from BS to FS. Concept 2 would consolidate all the top FS cars into BS, and turn FS into a new class for inexpensive cars like 350Z, RX-8, E36 M3, and older STi. There's also a proposal to eliminate cross-make engine weight penalties in SM. What do you think? https://www.scca.com/.../50102-2020-scca-solo.../download

Formerly named the Chairman’s Award prior to 1987, one award is given to the RE of a Region in each of the Region Size categories from the preceding year. The awards are given in honor of SCCA member Tom Burke. His love of SCCA and passion for what we do not only ignited in others a desire to become SCCA members, but also served as a call to engage in SCCA activities. Mr. Burke’s ambassadorial approach to prospective and current members served as a model for the spirit of the SCCA.
